ABOUT THE FARM

Washington State Department of Agriculture

The Raven and the Spade is a Washington State Certified Organic farm, dedicated to enhancing and preserving the small-farming communities of Whidbey Island.  We believe it is our duty to be stewards of the land, using only natural methods of insect control, crop rotation, and the love of our land to enrich the soil that provides us with a wide variety of mouthwatering fruits and vegetables.  There is something deeply right about learning to eat with the flow of the seasons.

Staff Members
Sean Hough (Garden brawn)

Sean is a whidbey local that has agreed to join us working on the farm.   We can use his motivation and willingness to get his hands dirty!

Camren Procopio (son)

Camren is helping in the garden this spring.  When he is not using his muscles to lend a hand he is rough housing with the dogs or doing flying summersalts over the garden beds.....perhaps teaching the puppies bad tricks...time will tell.

Adam Sigal (Garden Artist)

Adam came to us from San Francisco, an artist who has the notion of crossing peppers with tomatoes.....   We will get to that (or not), but in the mean time we are enjoying his company and hard work in the garden.  Extra creative input is always welcome!

Camille LaTray (Owner,designer)

Owner of The Raven and The Spade.

Amy Johnson (Garden Fairy)

I enjoyed Amy's help as the first garden fairy at The Raven and The Spade.  She is no longer out standing in her field and moved on to other green pastures.

Carrie Carpenter (Worker Bee)

Carrie is our garden woker bee that amazes me with her speed weeding abilities!

Kerry Kurtz (Weeder/bookkeeper)

Kerry joined us from after moving from Colorado.  After coming to the garden to buy produce she was hooked.
